Cannabis sativa

Family: Cannabaceae formerly listed as Urticaceae

Burmese-Myanmar transcript names:
• Agri.Dept.2000 20-521: {hsé:hkrauk}
• FAO : NL
• Lè-seik-shin : NL
• KS-TMN: NL
• Nagathein 1-453: {hsé:hkrauk}
• UHM 11: Se-chauk -- fam. Urticaceae

Myanmar-Script Spelling
• Official Myanmar Dictionaries :
{hsé:hkrauk} --  -- TravPo-M-Dict 101
{hsé:hkrauk} -- n. hemp, ganja, marijuana, hashish. -- Myan-Engl-Dict 133

UKT: Since some of the hallucinations produced on eating the leaves or inhaling the smoke of the burning leaves, are frightening, the spelling ought to be {chauk} (from {chauk-cha:} to be frightened) rather than {hkrauk} (meaning: to dry). Unfortunately, both words are pronounced by the majority of Burmese-speakers as {chauk}.

Myanmar-Script Spelling
• Official Myanmar Dictionaries  :
{chauk-cha:} - -- TravPo-M-Dict 053
{chauk-cha:} - v. 1. be badly shaken; be alarmed; be agitated (as in {sait} ) -- Myan-Engl-Dict 070

As a consequence of the above deliberation, MMPDB2006 has adopted the Burmese-Myanmar spelling   {hsé:chauk} .
