See Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socage 191224
Are the words "slave" and "serf" applicable to Burma under the kings stretching back to Pagan period is an important question. In Medieval Europe, the feudal lord even had the right to deflower the virgin daughters of the serfs.
See Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Droit_du_seigneur 191224
It is said that the Ari-monks of Pagan had the right to deflower the virgins who could not marry unless being deflowered. Is it true that the Aris were persecuted by King Anawrahta because of this custom? Or, were those Aris just belonging to the Buddhist sect of Tantra.
