UKT: Bur-Myan term is {ma.o:hta.min: ma.o:hing:} 'cooked rice which will not spoiled & curry which will not spoil'. According to my mother, {ma.o:hta.min: ma.o:hing:} is sun-dried cooked rice. In the days of her grandmothers and their mothers, in lower Burma, cooked rice that was left after eating for the day was sun-dried. It was then stored in bamboo containers  kept in readiness for taking away whenever the family had to go into hiding because of raiding parties coming into the region. Such rice when soaked in water and a little salt was all the food the family had to eat. -- UKT120810
