137. {thng:~Bau:ma.ho:}
Vinca rosea Linn.

UKT: The prefix {thng:~Bau:} meaning <ship> indicates that it is an imported species. My quest is to find out the indigenous variety, or a plant that is similar to the important one. However, from the  literature on hand, I cannot say if there is one.

139. {thng:~Bau:}
Carica papaya Linn.

UKT: The word {thng:~Bau:} meaning <ship> , in this case, probably does not indicate that it is an imported species. It probably came from the shape of the cut fruit which looks like the hull of a ship. Would I be able to get some idea from the languages of the indigenous ethnic groups. Shame on me: I know none of the other Myanmar languages -- I should at least know Mon, the language of my ancestors on my mother side !
