Bo-Tree, Sacred Ficus
Origin: India and Asia

Bo tree http://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/Ficus_religiosa.htm
This large deciduous tree is sacred to the Hindus and Buddhists, under which Budda received enlightment. This fast growing tree usually begins as an epiphytem (air plant, grows on trees) but developes roots to support its height of ninty plus feet. The Bo-Tree has purple figs and is different from other species, because of its slender, long leaf tip.

Streblus asper

{U.nhè: ping} • Moraceae

Family: Moraceae

Burmese-Myanmar transcript names:

- 65-1726: {U.nhè:} -- Streblus saper
• FAO : NL
• Lè-seik-shin : NL
• KS-TMN: NL
• Nagathein 4-081: {U.nhè: ping}
• UHM 7: NL

UKT:
• Agri.Dept.2000 has listed 2 entries:
-entry 64-1718: {oap-nhè} -- Streblus asper
-entry 65-1726: {U.nhè:} -- Streblus saper
Agri.Dept.2000 seemed to have made mistakes in both the above entries. In the entry 64-1718, {oap-nhè} is orthographically wrong. In the entry 65-1726, {U.nhè:} is orthographically correct, but the botanical name, Streblus saper , is spelled wrong.

• USDA-NRCS does not list either "S. asper" or "S. saper" -- see Streblus spp.
• Internet Google search on 051104 did not bring up "S. saper". Conclusion: "S. saper" a spelling mistake.

Abstract: The purpose of this in vitro study was to determine the antibacterial effects of leaf extract of koi (Streblus asper) against six anaerobic bacteria: Porphyromonas gingivalis W50, Prevotella intermedia, Actinomyces naeslundii (T14V), Peptostreptococcus micros, Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans ATCC 43717 and ATCC 43718. The dried-pulverized leaves were extracted using 50% (v/v) redistilled ethanol. Employing the disc diffusion method, it was demonstrated that 15 µL of the leaf extract at 250 and 500 mg/mL had inhibitory effects towards all bacterial strains tested except A. actinomycetemcomitans ATCC 43717. The minimum inhibitory concentration of S. asper leaf extract on P. gingivalis W50, A. actinomycetemcomitans ATCC 43717 and ATCC 43718, P. micros, P. intermedia, and A. naeslundii (T14V) were 3.9, 31.3, 7.8, 15.6, 31.3, and 125 mg/mL respectively. The minimum bactericidal concentration of the extract on P. gingivalis W50, P. micros, A. actinomycetemcomitans ATCC 43717 and ATCC 43718, were 31.3, 62.5, 62.5 and 15.6 mg/mL respectively. The extract had no bactericidal activity against P. intermedia and A. naeslundii (T14V).
