Plant identification characters :

Nagathein 2-800 Free translation by UKT
   The plant grows in sandy loamy soil as in the case of Amaranthus spp. Grows in cotton and corn fields. Height 1 to 1 1/2 feet. General appearance similar to Amaranthus spp. Note: There are two kinds -- the ordinary and the red. The red kind is more effective medicinally.

Plant identification characters :

   Shrub 6 to 7 feet. Leaves about 3 inches in length, 1 inch wide.

• An aromatic annual or perennial weed with a lanceolate or oblong, strongly serrate leaves, the lower being nearly lanciniate-pinnatifid -- UHM

 

Distribution in Myanmar:

• Maymyo -- UHM

 

Part used and uses :

• Dried fruits. Used as anthelmintic, especially for round worms but also for hook worms and intestinal amoebae -- UHM

 

Constituents :

• 1. Volatile oil containing 60-80 % of Ascaridole (anthelmic principle) liable to explode when heated. 2. p-Cymene about 20 % 3. l-Limonene and d-Camphor 4. Saponins. (7) -- UHM
