Explanatory notes

In order to explain the way in which the information in the dictionary is laid out, several entries are presented below with explanatory notes.

• Throughout the dictionary we use the convention of the cutback bar, a vertical line | which marks the place at which a word is divided so that alternative endings can be shown without having to print the entire word again.

• The brackets used for phonemic and phonetic transcriptions are not used in the entries in the dictionary, for the sake of clarity.

UKT notes

Please note that this presentation of DJPD16 is part of my study for transliteration of Bur-Myan (Burmese-Myanmar) into Romabama (Burmese-Latin) and the reverse process, leading to a transcription. My target audience is my staff and my collaborators in Yangon, the majority of who are not only non-linguists, but also very weak in English. To serve them better I have to include the dictionary meaning of English words.

homorganic -- Non-identical segments having the same point of articulation. e.g., [p], [b] & [m]; [t], [d] & [s]; [k], [g]; etc. From: http://sps.k12.mo.us/khs/linguistics/lingtrms.htm#H
